If you’re new to credit cards or you’re even looking for your first one there are a few things your credit provider will expect you to do in order not to fall foul of additional fees and damage to your credit rating.
First of all it’s important to pay more than the minimum balance when the bill comes in. Paying the minimum is ok, however, by doing so you’ll be indebted to your credit card company for much longer than necessary and they will believe that you don’t have the funds to pay off the debt more quickly, thus adversely affecting your credit rating.
You should make sure you stay inside your credit limit. Make a budget and stick to it. Remember that your spending isn’t the same as the balance you’re going to have to pay, interest and any fees will be added so if you are at your credit limit when the fees are applied it will take you over, meaning more fees and default charges.
